EXPERIENTAL

2019 waller creek show submission

Artist's Statement: Enlightenspheres creates an immersive experience that connects the duality of Waller Creek’s urban and natural environments. This installation bridges a constantly illuminated urban society of human connectivity to the natural darkness of night. With the modern world always looking down at devices, Enlightenspheres brings people’s attention upward to reveal an illuminated geometric elegance. The light globes are an abstract sample of an urban streetscape at night, superimposed through a strip of nature. The elongated form it creates as a whole reflects Austin’s longitudinal city structure.

Created by electroluminescent wires around a metal wire form, Enlightenspheres is a batch of different sized light globes suspended from above to illuminate a path through the darkness. This installation is versatile and can be placed in a variety of locations throughout Waller Creek. It can also be split into groupings for several locations throughout the park or installed as one long form as seen in the illustration.

2018 waller creek show submission

Artist's Statement: This sculpture is comprised of three mirrored structures that together form a zig-zag triangle across the creek bed landscape. Each individual structure is comprised of three mirrors placed on a steel frame in an angled, zig-zag pattern. Three lights are set up and angled so each light beam hits one of the mirrors directly, then bounces off to reflect in the other mirrored structures in another zig-zag pattern. The light bouncing off each structure unifies the three individual structures together, representing an abstract triangular fractal. This piece uses different color lights to represent basic attributes that Waller Creek is comprised of - sunlight, earth, and water.
The use of mirrored material gives a partial vanishing effect as it reflects the nature surrounding the creek bed as well as the onlookers, and for a brief moment, it all merges together on one geometric plane.

LOGOS

HomeGrown

Artist's Statement: This series focuses on the continuity of life; the aging, growth, and process into different stages. I have captured this process through photographs of the harvest season in my father’s backyard garden as the crops ripen. The harvest is important to my theme as it is a sign of gain - the ripe crops give life and nutrients back to the farmer as a result of him giving life and nutrients to them; just as I moved into a new stage of existence and gave back to the world what it has given to me.
More specifically, this series is a reflection of my adolescence confined and surrounded by comfort and growth. These photographs display my childhood, as it is the garden that my father has planted year after year on the only property that has remained stable in my life. As a child everything seemed timeless but as I have matured, I realize that time ages everything. It was not until I began taking these pictures that I realized how time has aged my father and with that, aged me. With this series, I reflected back on my youth before launching into the next season of my life.

Good On Ya, Mate

Artist's Statement: While trying to fully immerse myself into the Australian culture - living with "no worries" and adventuring on a whim - I captured snapshots of a life I'd always imagined I was meant to live. During these escapades I became myself and found that laughter, the ocean and the sun are essentials to living life to the fullest.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES

Artist's Statement: In recognition of the pop culture obsession with the zombie apocalypse, this project explored the personal and artistic views of the questions that encompass the concepts of place and identity. By combining some of my answers I created a diptych reflecting beauty, passion, alliance, and bloodshed.
